Community justice groups

Description

This chapter provides details of an important crime prevention initiative, the Local Justice Initiatives Program, which is already operating in over 30 Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal communities in Queensland. The chapter describes activities carried out by Community Justice Groups established under the program; describes how you can set up a Community Justice Group in your community; outlines the role of outstations as community based alternatives to custody for members of Torres Strait Island communities; lists things to remember when setting up an outstation; and describes the services provided by the Blackboy Outstation near Woorabinda, Qld.
