Improving responses to family violence : An advice on the intersection of family violence and family law issues

Description

This report deals with the small proportion of family violence incidents that become visible to the family law system. The study began following the 2006 reforms to the Family Law Act 1975. It recommends a wider definition in the Act to incorporate a range of threatening behaviour and a number of reforms to improve coordination and collaboration between jurisdictions and agencies, including between child protection services and courts. Several recommendations address improved information development and sharing, including a common knowledge base for those in the family relationships and family law areas on known patterns and effects of family violence, shared information on family violence orders, improved guidelines for lawyers and judicial officers and better public information.
