Description

This article describes the approach taken by the Coen Local Justice Group in central Cape York to addressing recurrent family violence offending at a local level. The Group’s approach involves participation in the court process by providing community advice on sentencing; the establishment of diversionary programs, including the imposition of “outstation orders”; a focus on rehabilitation and prevention, including informal recreational activities; and community ownership of the problem solving process.
