Description

The National Drug Strategy 2004-2009 provides a framework for a coordinated, integrated approach to drug issues in the Australian community. This document sets out the objectives and priority areas of the 2004-2009 phase of the National Drug Strategy, as well as outlining the basic features of Australia’s drug policy, which is based on the four features of harm minimisation, a comprehensive approach to licit and illicit drugs, the promotion of partnerships, and a balanced approach between supply reduction, demand reduction and harm reduction strategies. The document also provides a broad overview of the current situation in Australia with respect to the harmful use of licit and illicit drugs and other substances, and describes the advisory structures to the National Drug Strategy.
