The Ripple Effect: Understanding the exposure and impact of suicide in Australia

Description

This report highlights the need for leadership and improved regional efforts in tackling the rates of suicide in Australia. Qualitative survey data is relied upon extensively throughout. The findings are drawn from responses made by 3,220 Australian residents who have been impacted by suicide in some way.

The report highlights the significant over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander suicides than non-Indigenous Australians and details the responses made by Indigenous Australians to the survey.

Six recommendations are made, focusing on awareness, recognition, coordination of preventative strategies, prioritisation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prevention, discharge planning and engagement of the Productivity Commission in research.
