This Closing the Gap in the Northern Territory Monitoring Report brings together performance information for each ‘Closing the Gap’ measure from 31 December 2011 to 1 July 2012. However, in many instances information is provided for the entire period 1 July 2007 to 1 July 2012. This report will be the last Monitoring Report published under this agreement, but regular six-monthly Monitoring Reports will continue under the Stronger Futures in the Northern Territory National Partnership Agreement. The Stronger Futures in the Northern Territory National Partnership Agreement commenced 1 July 2012 and replaces the Closing the Gap in the Northern Territory National Partnership Agreement. Stronger Futures in the Northern Territory is a comprehensive long-term strategy, underpinned by $3.4 billion in funding over ten years. It draws on the existing evidence base and the lessons learned from the Closing the Gap initiative over the past four and a half years. This report provides detailed information and analysis on progress in ‘Closing the Gap’ areas of early childhood, schooling, economic participation, safe communities, governance and leadership, based on information provided by the responsible agencies as well as data from the Northern Territory Government.
