Just futures 2012-2015: Growing community, family, opportunity and justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders

Description

Just Futures (This Strategy) aims to improve safety in Queensland’s Indigenous communities and to reduce the over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as victims and offenders and in Queensland’s youth detention and correctional centres by focusing on reducing offending by addressing the underlying causes and consequences of crime such as poverty, unemployment, the impact of past government policies and laws and alcohol and substance misuse. This Strategy is developed after extensive consultations with various organisations, especially indigenous communities, and researches about the causes of the high rates of Indigenous incarceration and representation in the criminal justice system, and data analysis. This document includes practical, on-the ground actions that address the underlying causes and consequences of crime.
